Below are listed some minutes from the meeting, with group action items underlined:
  • Mark Wiesner provided a great overview of the NRC Report on progress in nano EHS strategies. Based on his presentation (and the prior presentation from Agnes Oonen, Janeck Scott-Fordsman and Lang Tran), we discussed a CoR approach moving forward:

  • The group proposes that we use the EU and US strategies as a conceptual structure for guiding our CoR discussions going forward, as they each include figures/discussions identifying key areas that need further research and development to enable progress in risk analysis of nano materials. By targeting each of the research areas listed as needing the most work within the two reports, we would then invite some key individuals at the forefront of these research areas to present and share insights with our group.  In this way we can all stay abreast of the leading edge of the nano risk assessment field, and ensure that our focus is on gaining understanding in areas that have been agreed by guiding organizations in North America and Europe as being critical to the advancement of nanomaterial risk analysis.

  • For our November teleconference (doodle poll above), perhaps we could all come to the call ready to propose some key prioritized issues from the EU and the US NRC reports for consideration within the meetings going forward.

  • For the face to face meeting in December, we agreed that all CoR members would send to Mark Wiesner, Derk Brouwer and Christine Hendren their ideas of possible formats and activities prior to November 1st.  Some thoughts on this: We proposed it would be nice to meet both alone with our own CoR, and as a group with other CoRs to understand better the "information supply chain" between us.  My specific suggestion would be to have a meeting of all CoRs focused specifically on the concept of an "information supply chain" and on identifying critical hand-offs in terms of information and process between communities. Then, more specific meetings could take place with targeted connections, such as our Risk Assessment CoR meeting with the Ontologies and Databases CoR, and with the Exposure and Toxicological modeling CoRs.
