Highlights and Action Items

Meeting Highlights:
The group discussed the goals and desired outcomes for the proposed methodology database. Various ideas for moving the project forward were discussed, including the possibility of using case studies on standard materials that are already in commerce (e.g. metal oxide nanoparticles, CNTS, quantum dots, silver nanoparticles) to evaluate the requirements and function of the proposed database.
The group identified the following database needs as particularly important:
- Emphasis on products in commerce across their ‘life cycles.’
- Address methods to evaluate an exposure pathway for a known release.
Several potential sources of data for the database were identified:

It is important for this COR to work with other CORS and with other groups in the NanoSafetyCluster as this activity moves forward. To promote cross-linking among groups, future calls or workshops may have presentations from other working groups.
Next Steps:
- COR members should respond to the brief, 4-question survey (https://us-eu.org/docs/requirements-for-a-database-of-methodologies-to-characterize-nm-in-environmental-media/) to inform the development of the database by COB on Monday, May 6.
- Based on the results of the survey, the Exposure COR co-chairs talk to the Databases and Ontologies COR co-chairs to get input on existing resources (e.g. Nanomaterials Registry) that could serve as a platform for the proposed methodology database.
- The COR will decide which database to collaborate with and make a formal proposal.
