2011 U.S.-EU: Bridging NanoEHS Research Efforts Joint Workshop

The first joint workshop was held on March 10-11, 2011 in Washington, DC. The goals of the workshop were to

  • engage in an active discussion about environmental, health, and safety questions for nano-enabled products
  • encourage joint programs of work that would leverage resources
  • establish communities of practice, including identification of key points of contact /interest groups/themes between key US and EU researchers & key US and EU funding sources

2016 U.S.-EU: Bridging NanoEHS Research Efforts Joint Workshop

The fifth joint workshop was held on June 6-7 in Arlington, Virginia.

The 2016 U.S.-EU: Bridging NanoEHS Research Efforts joint workshop brought together the U.S.- EU Communities of Research (CORs), which serve as a platform for American and European scientists to share information on nanoEHS research. This was the 5th event in a series of joint nanoEHS workshops organized by the U.S. National Nanotechnology Initiative and the European Commission.

2017 U.S.-EU: Bridging NanoEHS Research Efforts Joint Workshop

The sixth joint workshop was held on September 7-8, 2017 in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

Building on the approach from the 2015 and 2016 CORs meetings in Venice and Washington DC, this meeting, hosted by the University of Birmingham on behalf of the EC, was activity-driven.  The activity was to consider current (and future) approaches to nanosafety (nanoEHS) research in order to close the gap between research and regulation.  The activity focused on nanomaterials testing, grouping, and read-across methodologies, utilising case-studies to provide context for the discussion, focusing on if/how research data can be utilised in regulatory contexts.  The workshop utilised “clicker (polling) technology” to collect evolution of audience opinions in real-time.

2018 U.S.-EU: Bridging NanoEHS Research Efforts Joint Workshop

The seventh joint workshop was held on October 11-12, 2018 in Washington, DC.

This workshop brought together the U.S.- EU nanoEHS Communities of Research (CORs), which serve as a platform for American and European scientists to share information on nanoEHS research. It was organized by the U.S. National Nanotechnology Initiative and the European Commission.
